BiG5 ZiG Upgraded Banknotes: RBZ Rounds Off Successful Nationwide Campaign

The Reserve Bank successfully concluded a month-long nationwide education and
awareness campaign held in preparation for the release of the upgraded BiG5 ZiG
banknotes series, which officially entered circulation on 7 April 2026.
The extensive campaign covered all provinces and districts across the country, underscoring
the Bank’s commitment to ensuring that the public is well informed and confident in the use
of the new banknotes.
Throughout the campaign, outreach teams received positive and encouraging feedback from
members of the public signalling enthusiasm and readiness to adopt the upgraded ZiG
banknotes for everyday transactions.
The engagement sessions also provided a valuable platform for the Bank to collect public
feedback on the prevailing monetary policy framework. The feedback reflected growing
public confidence in the policy direction, which has contributed to sustained macroeconomic
stability, including the achievement of single-digit inflation for the first time in over 30 years.
The BiG5 ZiG upgraded banknotes were officially launched by Governor, Dr John
Mushayavanhu on 27 February 2026, as part of broader initiatives aimed at addressing
concerns relating to the quality and durability of the previous banknote series while
strengthening public confidence in the national currency.
